Fresh water is in increasing demand, particularly in arid and hot climates. Desalination is more commonly being used to remove the salt from brackish water and seawater to make it drinkable. Although the most favored desalination method is seawater reverse osmosis, multiple effect distillation (MED) can be competitive, particularly if associated with a power station with spare steam.
