HackerRank improves remote hiring process for developersAmy J. Born | June 01, 2020
The process of hiring employees, like many business functions, has moved off-site into the remote space due to the social distancing requirements of the COVID-19 outbreak. In response, HackerRank, the developer skills company, has launched its remote hiring solution for end-to-end developer skills-based hiring.
The company spent two months enhancing its platform to better accommodate the interview process in a remote format while still providing a well-planned, trustworthy standardized process for assessing candidates' skills.
"While hiring in many categories has slowed or stopped, the market for tech hiring is expected to bounce back rapidly. We are future proofing our solution not for the new normal but for the forever different," said Vivek Ravisankar, co-founder and CEO of HackerRank. "With these new product enhancements, we're ensuring our customers can meet their business objectives and accelerate their innovation while maintaining a world-class experience for their candidates and for their hiring managers."
HackerRank began offering CodePair as a free service to its customers on March 11. Since then several customers, including Duolingo, Bloomberg, Atlassian, Elastic and ServiceNow, have chosen to conduct all technical interviews remotely using the platform. The result is that companies in multiple industries have streamlined their remote hiring processes and candidates have spent over 30 million minutes using CodePair since that time. The goal has been to make the remote process for technical interviews as close to an in-person interview experience as possible.
CodePair allows hiring managers to conduct well-constructed, standardized, in-depth interviews that cover 35 different coding languages in a true coding environment. This gives the managers a clear view of candidates' skills while also providing a developer-friendly experience for those being interviewed.
Two features, the virtual whiteboard and a curated set of skills-based questions with interviewer guidelines, have been added specifically to support remote interviews. Additional features such as the industry standard skills rubric, interviewer scorecards and a comprehensive candidate packet for a comprehensive final review, round out the end-to-end platform.
