The Nest Learning Thermostat is an Energy Star certified thermostat that reportedly reduces heating bills by an average of 10% to 12% and cooling bills by as much as 15%. The adaptable self-learning device also programs itself. It builds a heating schedule based on user behavior by observing heating or cooling demands and is now being tested with a feature that identifies maintenance requirements.

Based on historical data and climate data, the Nest Learning Thermostat identifies when there is a problematic scenario. Unusual HVAC patterns are reported to the user through Nest HVAC alerts, which are forwarded to the user via email. Diagnostic data may include performance deficiencies and whether it is related to a heating or cooling unit.

Through a partnership with Handy, a software platform that connects service professionals with customers, Google provides its Next Learning Thermostat users in select metro areas with the ability to schedule service appointments when these problematic scenarios arise.

The smart device lets you dial in temperature adjustments and recalls the time and day of the week. It builds a heating and cooling schedule that suits the user with an emphasis on efficiency and energy conservation. To receive Nest HVAC alerts, users must register to receive Nest Home Reports. Users have this option to receive valuable insights into their HVAC performance and can opt-out at any time.
