Source: Wyssmont CompanyA turbo tray dryer is a type of process dryer consisting of a series of rotating horizontal plates or trays with a single slot. Material enters the slot onto the top tray and is slowly wiped to the tray beneath it as it rotates. This process is repeated until the material reaches the bottom tray. These trays are contained in an enclosure that circulates gas or hot air through the unit and drys the material as it moves through the unit.

The Turbo-Dryer from Wyssmont Company provides even, thorough and rapid drying by intermittently redistributing material with a plug-flow operation. The wiping action is self-cleaning, eliminating the need for manual cleaning at product changes.

The turbo tray dryer unit allows for zones or a uniform inside temperature, which makes it possible for close control of product temperature and very low residual moisture. Turbo-Dryer can handle temperatures up to 1,200° F. Each unit has adjustable temperature control and feed rates and can be factory configured as an environmentally sealed or explosion-proof model.

The unit can be configured to use almost any heating medium, including electric, steam, gas, electricity, oil, high-temperature oil or waste gas.

Unit dryers are available from 4 ft (1.2 m) in diameter to 12 ft (3.6 m) and from 5 ft (1.5 m) high to 16 ft (4.8 m). A Turbo-Dryer featuring 24 shelves that measure 6 ft (1.8 m) in diameter can dry up to 150 lbs/hr (68 kg/hr) of product from 30% moisture content to 0.5% at 300° F (150° C).

The gentle handling of the product produces little dust or product degradation, even with the most fragile materials.
