Orbital Gas Systems, a wholly-owned subsidiary of CUI Global Inc., held an open house on April 25 to showcase advanced metering technology for natural gas infrastructure.

Orbital has over 30 years of experience in design, installation and commissioning of industrial gas sampling, measurement and delivery systems. They have developed several featured technologies, which were on display at the open house at their 39,000 ft² facility in Houston, including their GasPT analysis units and VE Technology sampling equipment.

GasPT analysis units

The Orbital gas property transmitter is a connected solution that offers near real-time analysis of natural gas. The device utilizes three discrete sensors from which it derives critical properties of natural gas, including density, thermal conductivity and the primary influencing inert gas. From the measured values the device infers the composition of the gas mixture, and per standard ISO6976 a number of valuable physical properties are calculated including calorific value, the Wobbe Index, relative density, the compression factor, methane number and total air requirements.

VE sampling equipment

Orbital’s VE sampling equipment facilitates field installations and accommodates direct pipeline installations. The device provides a true representative sample to any analyzer for quick and accurate analysis. VE sample systems are highly customizable and composed of both a fixed or retractable sampling probe and a gas conditioning unit to suit a number of different applications.
