Hydra-Cell revolutionizes linear flow metering
April 17, 2019For over a century, industries have relied on metering pumps in applications requiring accurate, linear and repeatable flow, many of them hydraulically actuated balanced diaphragm types. Typically, this technology employs one diaphragm which displaces the pumped product, resulting in uneven slugs of fluid which average out over time to a specific flow rate in GPH or LPH. Many times, pulsation dampeners are used to mitigate the problems of shaking pipes and interrupted flow, but this adds cost and maintenance to the system.
That is why 15 years ago, after discovering their Hydra-Cell pump customers were using them in metering applications, Wanner Engineering began evaluating the pumps for compliance with API 675 metering performance. Mating the pumps to right angle gear reducers produced pumps that not only resembled conventional metering pumps but met or exceeded their performance. Realizing that the multiple diaphragm design of the Hydra-Cell pumps would result in linear “pulse-less” flow in metering applications, an incomparable advantage in the metering pump world, the company launched the P Series metering pump line.
Other benefits carried over to the metering pumps from the Hydra-Cell line – the ability to run dry without damage indefinitely, replenishment of the actuating oil on every pump stroke, numerous diaphragm and fluid end material choices, horizontal disk check valves capable of handling abrasives and solids up to 800 microns in size and 9 on the Mohs hardness scale, a footprint considerably smaller than its counterparts and efficiencies seldom seen in metering pumps, to name a few.
Nearly a decade ago, Wanner Engineering introduced a line of high pressure, high flow pumps featuring a unique patented seal-less pump technology. The success of this new technology was scaled down to fill a void in the high pressure, ultra-low flow metering product line, resulting in the release of the MT8 pump. Capable of flows as low as 0.06 gph at 3500 PSI, the MT8 shares many of the valuable features of the P Series pumps with a few additional advantages – an internal pressure valve, cartridge check valves, diaphragm positioning control, among others.
