New short-bodied perforating system for multi-stage plug-and-perf operations
Shawn Martin | February 13, 2019GEODynamics introduced a short-bodied perforating system that delivers a higher cluster count per stage. The patented HELLFire perforating system is claimed to be more effective than existing technologies on the market when completing multi-stage plug-and-perf operations.
The new HELLFire perforating system is a compact unit with a total length of just 9.5 in. It effectively reduces tool string length and with three- or six-shot cluster options it allows for staged completions that were impossible when using conventional spiral-based technology.
Operators performing multi-stage plug-and-perf operations now have the flexibility to deploy ideal cluster counts and spacing arrangements. It is suggested to lower completion costs and reduce the number of perforated stages all the while maximizing infectivity for optimal proppant placement.
HELLFire is a factory loaded, wireline perforating system. It is compatible with addressable initiators or mechanical switch technology. It is also conveyable via wireline or slickline operations.
The patented perforating system was designed for limited entry wellbores and unconventional reservoirs. With smaller crane requirements, the ability to achieve pinpoint shot placement, and no wired connections between guns and factory loaded explosives, it improves both the safety and reliability of plug-and-perf operations.
