Source: Imma/InstagramSource: Imma/InstagramGraphic artists in Japan have created a computer-generated fashion model, according to reports.

The life-like model, named Imma, which is the Japanese word for “now,” is the creation of graphic artists from the CG company ModelingCafe who transposed the model’s face over real-life bodies and backgrounds and shared those images on the model's Instagram account. The graphic artists created Imma’s realistic look with help from female engineers who understood the nuances of applying makeup, according to the reports.

With over 18,000 Instagram followers, Imma has already graced the February cover of Japan’s CG World magazine.

Imma isn’t the first computer-generated Instagram personality and fashion model. She joins her 2016 predecessor Miquela Sousa, otherwise known as LilMiquela, who engages her Instagram followers with makeup tips and fashion trends. Like Imma, LilMiquela has realistic features that resemble those of a human fashion model.

As both figures continue to attract attention for their life-like features, their popularity has also given rise to the concern that computer-generated models will one day threaten the jobs of human fashion models, joining the chorus of those expressing fears that automation will render humans unnecessary in the workplace.
