Haas Automation showcased its new EC-400 Horizontal Machining Center at IMTS 2018 in Chicago earlier this month. The EC-400 is completely redesigned for 2018 and incorporates an optional built-in pallet changer with 400 mm pallets.

The new EC-400 design has been improved from the castings to the enclosure and is more compact and rigid than previous models. The machine includes a larger work envelope, faster rapids and full fourth-axis pallet indexing. The new EC-400 also features an additional 5 in of vertical travel, a standard 30+1 pocket tool changer with options of 50+1 or 100+1, and improvements to the chip evacuation system.

An optional six-station pallet pool for machines equipped with a 50+1 or 100+1 tool changer can be ordered with the machine or installed in the field. The pallet pool is intended for high-volume production or high-mix/low-volume machining. The pallet pool features six pallet storage locations plus one machining station, with a payload of 500 lb per 400 mm pallet.
