The goal to become more environmentally friendly has been adopted by numerous electronics companies worldwide.

Automotive OEMs have become more environmentally friendly by transforming their production facilities, as well as increasing commitment to electric vehicles and other environmentally friendly cars. But other measures are being undertaken by semiconductor vendors, such as Intel, and electronic giants, such as Google, to push toward carbon neutral manufacturing.

Now, Signify, formerly Philips Lighting, has announced it has become carbon neutral in its U.S. and Canada operations. The move happened after the company began operating on 100% renewable electricity in 2016 and compensates for all its remaining carbon emissions as of this year.

Signify plans to become completely carbon neutral in all of its operations in 2020.

The company set out with two strategies to become carbon neutral. First, Signify set a goal for 80% of its revenues to come from sustainable products, systems and services. Signify achieved 100% carbon neutral for operations through 100% use of renewable electricity, zero waste to landfill in manufacturing and ensuring a sustainable supply chain with minimum supplier performance rate of 90%.
