Bombardier Transportation says it signed a contract with Västtrafik to supply 40 electric multiple-unit trains to meet growing regional traffic in Sweden's region of Västra Götaland.
The value of the contract is about $452 million and includes an option for 60 additional trains. Delivery is planned to begin in 2021.
Since Västtrafik was formed in 1999, ridership has more than doubled to a target of 135,000 journeys per-day provided by the county.
The three-car trains are designed for high capacity and low operational cost. The trains will operate at speeds of up to 200 km/h and offer seating for 270 passengers.
