CB&I was awarded a $500 million contract to provide engineering and construction work on a crude oil project in the United Arab Emirates.
The award was made by Abu Dhabi National Oil Co. and is part of a $3.1 billion project led by Samsung Engineering Co. to upgrade the Ruwais refinery to process heavier offshore crude oil from Upper Zakum fields.
CB&I says in a statement that its scope of work includes the engineering and procurement for two atmospheric residue desulfurization units. Work will also include the engineering, procurement, fabrication and construction for 14 flat-bottom tanks and 10 process heaters. Approximately 40 percent of the value of the project is expected to be spent in the UAE supply chain.
