Berkeley Nucleonics Corporation has entered into a distribution partnership with StemRad Ltd., an Israeli Source: Berkeley Nucleonics CorporationSource: Berkeley Nucleonics Corporationcompany founded in 2011, which specializes in radiation protection equipment. The companies are launching 360 Gamma – the world’s first wearable shield that provides meaningful protection from harmful gamma radiation.

The shield protects the bone marrow production sites in the hip bones where vulnerable and crucial stem cells reside. Its ergonomic design makes it suitable for military forces, first responders, HAZMAT teams and even astronauts, ensuring essential stem cells are protected without compromising mission objectives.

When exposed to high-levels of gamma radiation, the immediate concern to individuals is that of Acute Radiation Syndrome, or radiation sickness. In such cases, damage to the body’s bone marrow leads to fatal aplastic anemia, indicated by a severe lack of red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets. The pelvic bones contain 50 percent of the body's active bone marrow. This fact, coupled with the bone marrow's amazing regenerative capability, means that protecting this area of the body is life-saving. The 360 Gamma is worn around the pelvic area, affording highly effective protection to the body’s “life factory," while also significantly reducing the likelihood of cancer in sensitive organs such as the stomach, bladder and colon.

Unlike other whole body radiation protection equipment, the 360 Gamma focuses on only shielding the core of the body which allows for a lightweight device with improved protection.
