Beijing plans to be the home of the world's largest airport passenger terminal. The terminal can accommodate 45 million passengers per year upon opening, and a concept design is now complete, reports World Architecture News. Beijing's existing Capital Airport, built in 1958 and expanded seven times, has exceeded its planned capacity.

ADP Ingeniérie (ADPI), a French engineering and architecture firm and London-based Zaha Hadid Architects (ZHA) worked on a concept design for the Beijing New Airport Terminal Building in Daxing, Beijing, under the leadership of the Beijing New Airport Headquarters (BNAH). BNAH also retained Buro Happold, Mott Macdonald and EC Harris to collaborate.

The airport will include an integrated multi-modal transport center, featuring direct links to local and national rail services, including the Gaotie high-speed rail. The terminal is intended to be capable of operating in many different configurations depending on aircraft and passenger traffic throughout the day. BNAH says it also expects the airport to be a catalyst for regional economic development.

Following the completion of the concept design stage, the project is being led by the Local Design Institute team under the continued leadership of BNAH.
