Envision Solar International says it received a $2.14 million order from New York City for 32 of its EV ARC portable vehicle charging stations.

The order was made by the Department of Citywide Administrative Services and will provide solar-powered EV charging and emergency power to nine city agencies.

The charging station fits inside a parking space and generates enough solar electricity to power up to 225 miles of EV driving in a day. The system uses a tracking system which causes the array to follow the sun, generating up to 25% more electricity than a fixed array, the company says. Energy may be stored for charging day or night and to provide emergency power during a grid failure.

The company says its product requires no trenching, foundations, or installation work. The products are manufactured in San Diego, Calif.
