Welcome to Engineering360!
David Wagman | September 24, 2014Most of you recognize the device on the front page as the Archimedes screw, which moved water from one level to another. Archimedes’ ingeniously simple machine was used by the ancients and continues to find applications today.
Archimedes is an appropriate figure to consider as IHS launches this site and invites you to make it a regular part of your professional life. After all, Archimedes ranks as one of antiquity’s most brilliant scientists, mathematicians and engineers. Like Archimedes, modern engineers manage multiple roles. At once today’s engineer is expected to be a technical expert, an innovator and a business leader and mentor.
We created Engineering360 to nourish and serve the whole engineer. On this site you will find the profession’s largest collection of technical standards, product guides and reference materials, all of it readily searchable and accessible with a couple of mouse clicks. Here, too, you will find feature articles, commentary and news headlines to spark creative thinking and innovation as well as to deepen your understanding of the profession.
You also will find the engineering profession’s largest community, offering you the opportunity to continue to grow professionally, to mentor and encourage others and even to work out problems and hash over ideas with like-minded colleagues from around the world.
As Editorial Director, I am excited to be part of this comprehensive resource for engineers and allied professionals. I hope you’ll be a frequent visitor and that you’ll let me know what you think of Engineering360!
