Test Procedure and Energy Conservation Standard for Pumps
Engineering360 News Desk | March 08, 2017The U.S. Department of Energy published a Test Procedure & Energy Conservation Standard for pumps. The new standard is expressed as a Pump Energy Index (PEI) applicable for specific rotodynamic, clean water pumps used in a variety of commercial, industrial, agricultural, and municipal applications.
The Hydraulic Institute (HI) has prepared tools to help pump manufacturers understand the complex test procedure and calculate PEI in a consistent manner to meet the 2020 compliance and labeling requirements.
A macro-enabled, Excel-based tool developed by Engineered Software Inc. is available to HI members. This calculator is designed to be used in-house and integrated into OEM testing programs.
A publicly accessible online tool developed by Intelliquip LLC calculates PEI and presents it in a manner that can also be uploaded into the HI Energy Rating Program.
