New Additions to Anti-Vibration Technology Lineup
Engineering360 News Desk | February 22, 2017Big Kaiser has made three additions to its Smart Damper family of anti-vibration technology: the EWN & EWD finish boring heads and SW rough boring heads with the CKB modular connection.
The units incorporate a passive damping mechanism that acts by means of high resonance friction. This minimizes the effects of high frequency oscillations, absorbing vibration and allowing higher machining accuracy.
The devices use friction to dampen resonance.Meanwhile, the CKB connection allows for standard shanks and extensions to be adapted with the heads to create "custom" tools that can extend over 16 in. while maintaining damping near the cutting edge and managing vibration in long-overhang set-ups.
The SW features a twin-cutter head for rough boring holes in the range Ø1.614 in.- 4.331 in. It can create deep bores into iron or steel workpieces without vibration or chatter. Moreover, the company says it can perform two roughing operations without needing to change any components due to individually adjustable insert holders with a unique design element.
The company says its mid-size diameter boring head types EWN and EWD can produce deep holes with what are claimed to be dramatic improvements in time and accuracy. For instance, the EWN analog heads feature .0005 in. /Ø setting accuracy with .0001 in./Ø possible with Vernier precision. The EWD digital heads feature Ø.00005 in.” setting accuracy and have a seal rating of IP69K. The three head sizes involved cover the range of Ø1.614 in. - 5.906 in. and both head types feature through-coolant.
