The TracStar 28 from McElroy Manufacturing Inc. combines the legacy of larger TracStar machines with the fusion range to suit the needs of smaller, 2-inch iron pipe size (IPS) to 8-inch ductile IPS (63 mm to 225 mm) pipe fusion projects.

Sharing a common vehicle with the 250, 412i and 618i range of TracStar machines, the TracStar 28 is powered by a powerful diesel engine — which is especially useful on jobsites where gasoline is not permitted. Like its larger counterparts, the TracStar 28 offers a self-propelled, self-contained track-mounted vehicle that can handle grades up to 30%.

A new cowling design increases airflow and increases the hydraulic fluid capacity. A standard battery disconnect is incorporated for easy lockout.

TracStar 28 fusion machines incorporate an interchangeable four-jaw carriage that can be easily removed for in-ditch fusions. For tight installations, the outer fixed jaw and skid can be removed from the carriage converting it to a 3-jaw carriage for an even more compact fusion unit.

The TracStar 28 can also be ordered as a combination unit that allows fusion of branch saddles with a maximum base diameter of 9.63 inches onto any size main.
