BLT launches Ti65 powders for AM
GlobalSpec News Desk | August 10, 2024The China-based metal 3D printing hardware and services company Bright Laser Technologies (BLT) has introduced what it claims is a breakthrough in metal additive manufacturing (AM) powders with its new BLT-Ti65 material for metal LPBF and DED processes.
BLT’s TI65, with chemical composition Ti-5.9Al-4Sn-3.5Zr-0.3Mo-0.4Si-0.3Nb-2.0Ta-1.0W-0.05C, is a multi-element near-α high-temperature titanium alloy that demonstrates strength, ductility, creep resistance, corrosion resistance and thermal stability at 650° C, thus surpassing conventional titanium alloys.

As such, the company suggests that BLT’s T165’s primary applications can be found in high-pressure compressor blades, metal matrix composites and high-temperature structures. BLT further indicates sectors like aerospace, chemical equipment and marine engineering as potential industries for the material’s use.
Additionally, the BLT-Ti 65 material for metal LPBF processes includes a particle size range of 15 μm to 53μm. Post-heat treatment, parts reportedly exhibit properties at 650° C with yield strength of 483 MPa to 503 MPa, tensile strength of 604 MPa to 624 MPa and elongation of 16.5% to 26.5%. Meanwhile, the BLT-Ti 65 for DED processes has a particle size range of 75 μm to 180 μm. Post-heat treatment parts also exhibit properties at 650° C, with yield strength of 478 MPa to 538 MPa, tensile strength of 588 MPa to 648 MPa and elongation of 22% to 32%.
