Automated vending machines capable of dispensing bullets or ammunition are beginning to appear in parts of the U.S. thanks to a company called American Rounds.

The vending machines are beginning to show up in U.S. grocery stores throughout Alabama, Oklahoma and Texas, with the company’s intent of making bullets ‘more available’ for customers.

According to the American Rounds’ website, the vending machines are expected to offer around the clock automated ammunition purchasing. Further, the ‘smart automated’ bullet dispensing machines use artificial intelligence (AI) to accurately identify the buyer and details about the buyer before being allowed to make a purchase.

“Our smart retail automated ammo dispensers have built-in AI technology, card scanning capability and facial recognition software. Each piece of software works together to verify the buyer’s age and that the person using the machine matches the identification scanned,” the website explains.

The smart vending machines feature instructions for the customer that lets them know what type of ammunition is available for purchase. The company hopes to eventually expand its vending machines beyond Alabama, Oklahoma and Texas.
