Pittsburgh, Penn.-based PPG Industries has introduced HOBA Purair coating, a protective powder liner for the inside of aluminum aerosol cans that is solvent free, including no added Bisphenol A.

The coating helps aluminum can makers meet sustainability goals and environmental regulations for reducing volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions while providing containers with high recycling capability.

“Powder coatings can play a key role in aerosol packaging going forward by satisfying regulatory and environmental concerns, especially regarding the use of solvents,” says Robyn McMillan, PPG global segment manager for monobloc aerosol and tube coatings.

PPG says that HOBA Purair coating offers good smoothness at low thicknesses as well as “excellent coating flexibility.” It is intended to be used in most existing application processes. It extends a coatings product line that includes HOBA MAX, HOBA VCL, and HOBA VGL.
