Since its introduction in 2004, RE+, formerly SPI (Solar Power International), has grown into North America’s largest clean energy show. Last year’s event in Anaheim, California, featured over 850 exhibitors in the clean energy space and had 27,000 attendees. The 2023 show, which takes place on September 11 through September 14 at the Venetian Convention and Expo Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, promises to be even bigger with over 1,000 exhibitors already booked as of June.

While renewable energy is inherently technical in nature, this year RE+ is putting on a separate co-located show called RE+ Tech to specifically highlight innovations in the emerging greentech space. Re+ Tech will have its own networking opportunities and educational content and will include access to the overall RE+ expo hall.

Cutting-edge renewable technology education, plus networking opportunities

The RE+ Tech, as its own show, will have its own reception and networking opportunities, as well as a dedicated opening session entitled Financing the Cleantech Journey to Net Zero. This session will deal with how capital investment is crucial to the transition to green technology, from research and development, manufacturing and marketing new innovations to scale.

RE+ Tech will also feature a wide range of dedicated educational opportunities. Topics covered will include:

• The state of cybersecurity for renewable energy
• V2g (vehicle-to-grid energy storage)
• Second life storage (reusing batteries that have reached the end-of-life in their primary role)
• Long-duration energy storage from renewable and non-renewable sources
• Emerging solar methods
• Microgrids
• Hydrogen power

While RE+ as a whole covers the broad state of renewable energy and solar applications, RE+ Tech is dedicated to cutting-edge technologies. However, since RE+ Tech is co-located with the overall RE+ clean energy show, attendees will have access to the wide range of clean energy exhibits at the RE+ Expo Hall.

RE+ Expo Hall access

The RE+ Expo Hall’s 1,000-plus exhibitors will be spread out on two levels in the Venetian Convention and Expo Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. Exhibits will include start-ups, posters and show floor theaters with hands-on education and live demonstrations. While many of the exhibits will deal with established clean energy solutions, others will be cutting edge in nature, giving RE+ attendees background on what’s available now, as well as greentech on the horizon.

• Ul Solutions — A global leader in applied safety science, dealing with safety, security and sustainability challenges
• U.S. Sandia National Lab — Federally funded research and development center, in operation for over 70 years
• U.S. National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) — Research laboratory focused on creative answers to today’s energy challenges

Other technology-centric opportunities on the Expo floor include the Innovation Zone, the show’s main hub for renewable energy and cleantech startups, and the Innovation Stage, featuring presentations by companies across the clean energy landscape. There will also be a working microgrid demonstration, instructive for those in the renewable energy and power availability spaces.

The show will also feature the American Made Solar Prize finals. Participants will pitch their ideas for $1.4 million in prizes, and the winners will be announced during the show. Finally, a funder’s breakfast (which requires a separate ticket) will allow innovators and investors to connect, potentially opening up new capital opportunities.
