The all-new Alfa Laval ThinkTop V20 boosts process productivity
Diana Aoun | July 11, 2023The new Alfa Laval ThinkTop V20 valve indication unit is designed for reliable and cost-effective operation of hygienic valves. It offers standard functionality for intuitive sensing and display of the valve position and status through its 360° light-emitting diodes (LEDs). The ThinkTop V20 provides real-time valve position monitoring, easy access to historical data, and contributes to more reliable and accurate process control while reducing both time and cost during installation, commissioning, operation and maintenance.
The ThinkTop V20 is specifically designed for digitalizing on-off valve monitoring. It requires little-to-no maintenance and no manual adjustment or programming. It meets the requirements for sensing and displaying fluid handling status in hygienic applications across various industries, including dairy, food, beverage, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals and more.

The ThinkTop V20 has a compact, aesthetic design that offers several benefits, including a sensor system that provides more reliable real-time process control without the need for readjustment over time. Set up is faster and easier compared to conventional valve indication units thanks to its more intuitive capabilities. In addition, the ThinkTop V20 offers a choice of communication protocols (digital, AS-I,and IOLink) to suit different process requirements. The 360° LED visual status indication ensures visibility from all directions.
Installation of the ThinkTop V20 is efficient and straightforward, requiring no special tools or expertise. It can be easily mounted on top of Alfa Laval hygienic valves without additional steps or adapters. The unit is compatible with any Alfa Laval hygienic valve with standard mushroom connections, simplifying the installation of new units or replacement of older valve indication units.
The ThinkTop V20 is an automated valve indication unit that transmits the valve position and status to a programmable logic controller (PLC) system using electrical feedback signals. The unit utilizes microchip sensors with high accuracy to detect valve stem movement and calculate the valve position. The LED indicators provide a clear visual indication of the current valve position and any local faults.
