Software platform to benefit battery performance
S. Himmelstein | May 02, 2023Battery intelligence software has been developed by WAE Technologies to enhance the range, life, safety, power and rapid charging times of any electric vehicle (EV) battery and those deployed in other applications, including stationary energy storage.
The Elysia system features state-of-the-art embedded and cloud-based products, which together provide users with access to battery insights and the ability to manage and optimize performance across the battery’s entire lifecycle, both in the vehicle and in ‘second life’ applications such as stationary grid storage. The data gleaned from the platform is expected to lead to the manufacture of lighter, cheaper and more sustainable batteries.
The Elysia Embedded component of the system is a suite of state-of-the-art battery management algorithms, which run locally on the battery management system (BMS), such as directly on an EV’s battery or on a stationary energy storage system. The BMS algorithms help equipment designers and manufacturers increase vehicle range, achieve faster charging and maximize battery power without compromising safety or battery life. These algorithms are designed to run on standard low-cost chips typically found in mass-market BMSs. Applications to date confirm the ability to realize a 30% increase in battery life and 10% potential increase in battery range in addition to significantly reduced fast charge times and higher peak power output when compared to traditional battery management algorithms.
The Elysia Cloud Platform is a cloud-based system that uses proprietary digital twin technology. By providing a complete picture of a battery’s state of health, the system provides transparency and accurate verification of degradation and in-life fault-finding, all to the benefit of the second-life battery market.
