3D Platform Releases SurePrint Upgrade Package
Engineering360 News Desk | January 27, 20163D printer manufacturer 3D Platform released its SurePrint Servo Motor Upgrade Package for its large format 3DP1000 3D printer. The upgrade package offers a higher print detail, faster printing speeds and higher print accuracy. The servo motors offer advanced mechatronics and improved motor control that the company says will produce more highly accurate and detailed 3D printed parts.
The upgrade package servo motors generate up to 85% more torque compared to their standard stepper motors. The Illinois-based company released its 3DP1000 printer in 2015. The large-scale open platform concept of the 3DP1000 offered a high-speed option to rapidly mass produce 3D printable parts. With a build area of 1 meter x 1 meter x 0.5 meter (39 inches x 39 inches x 19.6 inches), the printer could produce identical parts or a single, large part.
The upgrade package servo motors generate up to 85 percent more torque compared to their standard stepper motors, which the company says enables faster acceleration and deceleration during the printing process. The motors also consume 67 percent less power than the standard stepper motors and produce 50 percent less heat.
The SurePrint Servo motors operate in a closed-loop system that corrects movements caused by the printing process. Each of the servo motors is embedded with a 20,000 count encoder that provides position feedback every 1.25 microns. This feedback gives the 3DP1000 the ability to adjust its printing head, which increases the final print quality and results in a smoother part surface finish with reduced striation marks, the company says.
