A revised water plan formalized by the Colorado Water Conservation Board provides a framework to help the state meet its water challenges through water conservation and collaborative action around water development. To help clarify water supply risks and identify opportunities for solutions under the plan, the Colorado Water Plan interactive website has been launched.

The data-driven Colorado Water Plan Interactive Tool illuminates the state’s water needs through 2050 andSource: Colorado Water Conservation Board Source: Colorado Water Conservation Board promotes an in-depth understanding of the complexities involved in regional water challenges. The platform models data from five plausible future water scenarios based on factors such as climate conditions, social values, economics, water supplies and demands for water across sectors. Scenario drivers encompass economy and population, urban land use, climate status, energy sector water needs, agricultural conditions, municipal and industrial conditions, and regulatory constraints.

The interactive tool shows how scenario planning can provide insights about how future conditions might evolve under the 2023 Colorado Water Plan. Decision makers and consumers can use the information to understand which drivers might contribute to more favorable versus harmful outcomes and better understand the inherent complexities.
