A course designed to train industrial drone operators has been developed by the Engineering Construction Industry Training Board (ECITB), an employer-led skills, standards and qualifications body for the development of the engineering construction workforce of the U.K.

The course is intended to train employees in the use of drones in industrial environments — the oil and gas, renewables, rail and construction sectors, for instance — for inspection and similar tasks.

With the aim of improving the safety and efficiency of human workers, the course trains employees in the operation of drones for inspection storage tanks, for example, and protects human workers from exposure to work-at-height risks and other hazardous environments.

The course was developed alongside the U.K. Drone Association, ARPAS-UK.
