Flexiv, a provider of robotic solutions, has developed a new robotic gripper capable of grasping an extensive range of items.

The so-called Grav Gripper features industrial-grade force control and an adhesive material inspired by the foot pads of a gecko.

According to its developers, the Grav Gripper can lift virtually any item that fits within its grasp thanks to impactive and contigutive grasping techniques that enable maximum handling flexibility. These techniques reportedly enable the Grav Gripper to lift and handle objects that are oddly shaped or that have an uneven surface texture.

Now compatible with standard collaborative robots, the Grav Gripper was initially designed to reduce frequent end-of-arm tool changes for Flexiv’s line of robots.

The Grav Gripper’s developers are eyeing the new gripper for tasks that include inserting micro components, transferring delicate objects or machine-tending applications.

The technology will be commercially available in the second quarter of 2023. For more information on the Grav Gripper, watch the accompanying video that appears courtesy of Flexiv.
