Can solar energy technology lighten the load of transportation logistics? A solar panel solution for a trailer refrigeration unit (TRU) reduces jump-start service calls, premature battery replacements and TRU diesel fuel usage.

The custom panels engineered by PowerFilm Solar mount directly to the leading edge of the reefer, eliminating common concerns of trailer-mounted solutions, including clearance and trailer cleaning issues.

Operators of ThermoKing Precedent reefers can benefit from a custom 24 W solar panel that fits between the fans of the Precedent TRU. The panel is easily attached to the metal frame of the TRU with four self-tapping screws. This design allows access to the radiator cap without removing the solar panel, a common problem with other solar solutions for this reefer.

This model also works for older ThermoKing units but may require rubber feet between the panel and metal frame to avoid height obstructions.

In addition to powering refrigeration units, solar panels can help charge multiple battery systems on components such as trailer telematics, lift gates, truck starting batteries, LED lighting and other accessories.
