On the Hydrogen Trail in Australia
S. Himmelstein | March 01, 2021The Hydrogen Trail, a joint venture initiated by Australian companies Axcentium and Ahurei, will field test a green hydrogen technology developed by Aqua Aerem for the provision of renewable energy and water in the remote Northern Territory town of Tennant Creek.
The patented proprietary system captures water from the atmosphere in arid environments. The planned 12-week trial will demonstrate the deployment of a solar concentrator system with dual-axis tracking claimed to harness energy twice as efficiently as a conventional silicon solar panel. A low-maintenance atmospheric water capture system harvests moisture from air, generating water to be electrolyzed for hydrogen evolution by the solar system.
The renewably produced hydrogen will be fed to the Tennant Creek Power Station to generate green energy as part of the local electricity mix. The 15 MW electrolyzer can potentially produce around 912 tons of green hydrogen per year, providing about half the energy the Tennant Creek community uses.
The system will provide water, green hydrogen and on-demand electricity for a Northern Territory community. Source: Aqua Aerem
