Source: WEGSource: WEGApex Pumps has manufactured a bespoke pump, equipped with a WEG motor, to be used in the production of hand sanitizer for a company in the U.K. amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

The bespoke pump from Apex was designed to handle ethanol and estasol, which is a combination of dimethyl succinate, glutarate and adipate — the primary ingredients in hand sanitizer.

To develop the pump, the Apex team started with pump components already in its inventory. Additionally, Apex reached out to motor manufacturer WEG to include WEG’s W21 Series 3.0 kW 2 pole Exd 11b T4 motor, an ATEX approved hazardous area motor, in the design of the new pump.

“Apex Pumps has been working alongside WEG for over 18 years,” explained Sam Kemp, sales director at Apex Pumps. “As a time-sensitive project, we were able to rely on WEG to provide a motor quickly. In fact, the team delivered a motor in just five days, allowing us to dispatch the pump to the customer within one week of the order placement.”
