Spinal cord stimulation system improves chronic pain treatment
Amy J. Born | May 19, 2020Medical device company Nevro Corp. has received CE mark approval for its Senza Omnia Spinal Cord Stimulation (SCS) system. The Omnia SCS is a new platform with several new components.

The Omnia programmer allows physicians to offer the widest array of waveforms across the full SCS frequency spectrum, such as traditional, paresthesia-based stimulation, subthreshold 1 kHz therapy or burst waveforms, either separately or paired with HF10, a pain treatment that alters the transmission of abnormal pain signals to the brain by delivering electrical pulses to the spinal cord. Omnia's frequencies range from 2 to 10,000 Hz, compared to other SCS systems that don't go above 1,200 Hz.
The redesigned remote is more intuitive for patients while supporting the increased programming capacity for additional waveforms and greater flexibility to expand on the HF10 algorithm. The patient charger is slimmer with an improved user interface. The system includes an updated and upgradeable implantable pulse generator. The rechargeable Omnia battery is designed to last over ten years regardless of the stimulation profile used, has conditional full-body MRI approval and will be upgradeable to new waveforms and frequencies.
Nevro launched the new SCS in the U.S. last year and plans to introduce it to physicians throughout Europe as soon as conditions related to COVID-19 allow.
