Developed in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the T1 glasses were created by the Hangzhou-based Rokid, a maker of augmented reality (AR) gaming products.
The T1 thermal glasses rely on infrared sensors and cameras to measure and record the temperatures of people almost 10 ft from the wearer.
Currently, an estimated 1,000 pairs of the glasses have been sold to governments, industrial parks and schools, enabling wearers to determine if someone within their proximity is expressing one of the symptoms of the coronavirus. If the goggles detect someone with a fever, the wearer can respond by further distancing themselves.
Developers at Rokid plan to make improvements to the glasses, eventually enabling them to take the temperatures of multiple people at once.
