Video: Pull-Planner 4.0 software designed for safe, efficient cable pulls
S. Himmelstein | April 16, 2020Minnesota-based Polywater, a provider of chemical products for electrical and communications construction and The updated software accommodates different pull methods and field conditions. Source: Polywatermaintenance applications, has updated its Pull-Planner software. The program allows users to estimate both pull tension and sidewall pressure prior to a cable pull, which proactively safeguards against potential cable damage.
Cable pulling plays a key role in designing and upgrading power infrastructure and systems, and the revised software combines industry best practices with robust testing methods using real cables, conduits and lubricants. Program capabilities are also enriched with the company's extensive coefficient of friction database. Its application aids in estimating ending tension and sidewall pressure, eliminating splices, reducing the number of vaults and pull boxes, determining direction of pull and planning for future upgrades.
Pull-Planner 4.0 accommodates different pull methods and field conditions, including variable friction, rollers, reverse pulls, tension back calculation and push/pull devices. A small sample cable database includes five cable types in English units and five types in metric units. Pre-existing cable databases can also be added to the Pull-Planner cable data.
