The security mechanism is derived from the owner’s voice translated into a biometrically based security key. Software converts a brief voice recording into a printable pattern, which is used to configure the locking nut’s indentation and key. Designed as one piece, the nut and key are 3D-printed using acid and stainless steel, followed by separation and final grinding.
Irregularly spaced ribs inside the nut and indentations that become wider with depth are intended to prevent copies made based on wax imprints. The wax simply pulls apart as it is removed due to the complex architecture of the anti-theft device.
The company said that the security component could also be based on any logo or design of the owner’s choosing.
So... What happens when you buy a used car with these nuts and the previous owner didn't include the custom socket? Can a new one be made based on the VIN or is that not an option either?
