The NiMH long life series for backup use features five different cells: BK220SCHU, BK60AAAHU, BK120AAHU, BK1100FHU and BK310CHU. Both the BK220SCHU and the BK60AAAHU are new and incorporate a nickel hydroxide cathode, metal hydride anode and alkaline electrolyte so that they are safer and friendlier to the environment than other battery alternatives. Some applications include medical, emergency lighting, LED lighting, point-of-sale systems, ATMs and vending machines, among others.

Specific features of the U type NiMH include superior charge efficiency and capability to discharge at higher ambient temperatures. The units can serve as suitable replacements for nickel cadmium batteries.
