Collision Avoidance System Offered for Consumer Drone Market
Engineering360 News Desk | August 05, 2015Panoptes Systems has released an obstacle avoidance product called eBumper4. Designed as a retrofit kit, eBumper4 is an add-on for some of the most widely owned consumer drones on the market – the DJI Phantom 2 and the 3D Robotics Iris+.
The eBumper4 protects drones against collision while traveling straight towards an object. Front, lateral and upward sonar sensors detect items up to a distance of 15 feet away and will autocorrect the trajectory, “bumping” the drone away from the approaching obstacle. Panoptes also added features that make the drone easier to control, including auto-takeoff and an indoor mode that assist operators maneuver through tight spaces.
The eBumper4 has the potential to simplify and streamline a number of professional activities ranging from photography to building inspection.
Panoptes Systems Corp., founded in 2014 as a spin-off from Aurora Flight Sciences, exists to accelerate the introduction of unmanned aircraft into the national airspace system by enabling their safe and efficient operation in any application.
