China opened the Jiaozhou Bay bridge opened to traffic on October 16. The bridge is 26.4 miles long and ranks among the world’s longest. It links China's eastern port city of Qingdao to Huangdao island.

The bridge is 110 feet wide and its total construction cost is disputed. Various sources put it at anywhere from 10 billion yuan ($1.5 billion) more than $8.8 billion. The bridge is supported by more than 5,000 pillars and took more than four years to build.
