The design and simulation of a Class 4 electric delivery truck for Purolator, a large Canadian courier company.
The analysis, design, simulation and integration work was performed collaboratively by McGill Engineering researchers, Cummins and TM4 engineers, and Purolator specialists. The simulation work involved the integration of several multi-time-scale simulators into an e-truck digital twin. The simulation platforms included Simcenter MAGNET, Matlab, PSAT, AVL Cruise and LabView. Purolator driving cycles were used to optimize the design and favorable payback times were obtained depending on the vehicle’s configuration. The electric delivery truck integrated by Cummins is currently being tested on regular Purolator routes in Ottawa and Montreal with excellent results so far.
