Powered by two electric motors, Volkswagen’s ID.R recently lapped Germany’s Nürburgring-Nordschleife in Source: Volkswagen6:05 minutes — faster than any electric vehicle before it. Driver Romain Dumas surpassed the previous record set by Peter Dumbreck in 2017 by 40 seconds.

This is the third notable feat completed by the ID.R in the last year, which set a new world record time climbing Pikes Peak in Colorado and posted an e-record at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in southern England.

The fastest emission-free lap in Nürburgring was clocked at an average speed of 204.96 km/h. Careful energy management and an efficient charging strategy contributed to the winning formula: in each lap the vehicle gained an extra 20% of lithium-ion battery power through its regenerative braking system.
