The Volkswagen ID.R has set a new all-time record at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. The 500 kW electric race car completed the 1.86 km track in south England in 39.9 seconds to break the previous Formula 1 record by 1.7 seconds.

The ID.R has been further modified since setting new record times at Colorado’s Pikes Peak and Germany’s Nürburgring-Nordschleife. Vehicle weight was reduced to less than 1,000 kg using a smaller battery with optimized power output. Volkswagen also eliminated the drag reduction system deemed essential for navigating high-speed sections of the Nürburgring, as it was non-essential for the Goodwood track.
