Pope launches 'Click to Pray' app
Marie Donlon | January 22, 2019To attract younger generations to prayer, Pope Francis has launched a prayer app ahead of his appearance at Panama’s World Youth Day 2019.
The pope has invited young people all over the world to download the new Click to Pray app in the days leading up to World Youth Day 2019, which is a festival that unites young people in prayer and faith. The app, which will be available in six different languages, will enable more than one billion Android and iOS device users to virtually pray alongside the pope.
Users of the app can see what the pope is praying for in real time through his Click to Pray profile — for instance, for world peace or for those living in a country hit by natural disaster. To pray along with him, users can click on the available icon, part of the Vatican’s digital platform, the Worldwide Network of Prayer with the pope.
"Internet and social media are a resource of our time — an opportunity to stay in touch with others, to share values and projects, and to express the desire to make a community," Pope Francis told a crowd gathered in Italy’s St. Peter’s Square on Sunday following the app's launch. "The network can also help us to pray in community, to pray together...I especially invite you young people to download the Click To Pray app, continuing to pray the rosary for peace with me, especially during the World Youth Day in Panama."
Panama's World Youth Day 2019 is slated run from Jan. 22 to 27.
