The aircraft seats up to seven people and is billed by Honda as a “quiet, quick and green” mode of transport. The aircraft was built in North Carolina and is for sale in the U.S. and Europe.

The design of the HondaJet, as it is called, was based on a Salvatore Ferragamo high-heel shoe. It features one of the most unique engine layouts—two GE Honda HF120 turbofans mounted on top of its wings to face less air resistance.

So far, Honda says it has received 100 orders for the plane and deliveries are likely to begin later this year.

According to Honda Aircraft Chief Michimasa Fujino, the company hopes the jet will become available within a few years in Japan, where regulation means the private jet market is almost nonexistent.

“I know people are working hard for deregulation," says Fujino. "It won't happen immediately but there is a chance in the long run."
