Vertical Traveling Column Machining Center
Engineering360 News Desk | February 06, 2017The Mazak VTC-805E vertical traveling column machining center is aimed at bringing versatility and productivity to machining shops that need to tackle long and/or heavy parts. The machine includes an increased Y-axis stroke, long bed/table size, high spindle speed and torque and Mazak’s SmoothG CNC control.
The Mazak VTC-805EFor operations that require as much Y-axis travel as possible, the VTC-805E provides travel of 32" possibly providing a cost-effective alternative to a bridge-style machine. Meanwhile, the machine’s fixed table measures 82.7"x32.3" with its moving column providing a 69.3" X-axis and 28.3" Z-axis to help ensure that bulky workpieces can be tackled.
Another feature is an optional center partition that makes it possible to transform the machine’s table into two separate work areas to process parts on one side, while operators load or unload parts on the other for an overall reduction in cycle times. In addition, a turret-style magazine accommodates 40 tools.
The machining force of the VTC-805E is delivered through a 30hp, CAT 50 taper, 6,000rpm spindle that enables the machine to be used with a wide variety of materials including titanium, aluminum, steel, and cast iron. The machine also can be equipped with a spindle rated at 40hp, CAT 50 taper and 10,000rpm.
The company says its SmoothG CNC is described as making it easy to generate programs for off-centerline machining as well as angled drilling, milling and tapping operations.
