International said it is among the first OEMs to make collision mitigation technology standard on its vehicles.
Bendix Wingman Advanced gives drivers information regarding following distance and alerts regarding stationary object alerts. International Truck said it also brings together adaptive cruise control with collision mitigation braking technology and the full-stability technology, known as Bendix ESP, that provides a system that can help drivers avoid collisions, roll-overs, and loss-of-control situations.
In addition, the Bendix Wingman system can provide data to inform fleet owners and operators with audible and visual alerts that let drivers know when getting they’re getting too close to forward vehicle, when a collision with the forward vehicle is likely, and a three-second alert when a metallic object might be blocking a lane of travel.
According to recent data from the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, there were 10.7 fatal large truck crashes per million people in the United States in 2014, a 1% increase from 2010.
