This robot packs a punch
Marie Donlon | August 31, 2023A team from China’s Qibot Robot Company has reportedly built the world's fastest boxer bot.
Dubbed Qibbot, the single-armed robot can extend its one arm nearly 5 ft, stands more than 6 ft tall and can be teleoperated. Further, Qibbot’s developers suggest that the robot’s response delay time of 12 milliseconds makes it the world's fastest.

To accomplish this, the team explained that within the control algorithm, a "feed-forward" controller was introduced in addition to the feedback controller. The role of the new controller is to anticipate system delays as well as respond to offset latency attributed to mechanical systems and virtual reality (VR) devices employed by human controllers.
To demonstrate the response times of Qibbot, the telebot’s makers conducted a boxing match featuring another bot that was guided by artificial intelligence (AI). Ahead of the match, the makers outfitted the AI-bot with tools to help it produce fighting strategies, learn defense skills on the go and make sense of attacks and defense. During the boxing match, Qibbot reportedly achieved a low latency of 12 milliseconds — less than the time it takes to blink an eye.
Going forward, the team intends to improve the design of Qibbot by outfitting the telebot with a second arm and additional joints for smoother operation.
The team is eyeing Qibbot for future military and crime-fighting applications.
