A startup in the U.K. that has developed a so-called invisibility shield has announced a Kickstarter campaign to support the technology.

The company, aptly dubbed Invisibility Shield Co., has reportedly engineered a lens array that deflects light from the subject — positioned behind the shield — away from the observer — positioned in front of the shield.

According to the company, the lenses are situated vertically, enabling light from the subject to diffuse as it passes through the shield. Meanwhile, the light from the subject's background is refracted in the direction of the observer who is unable to detect the subject concealed behind the shield.

Because the technology relies entirely upon optics, no power source is needed for the invisibility shield. Further, the shield, which is composed of fully recyclable marine grade materials, serves no other functions beyond concealing as many as multiple people at once.
