Panasonic and Teledyne Team Up on Aircraft Data Transfer
Engineering360 News Desk | October 27, 2015Panasonic Avionics and Teledyne Controls plan to develop what they say is an “integrated connectivity solution” to enable real-time operational aircraft data transfers during flight.
The companies will use Teledyne’s Wireless GroundLink Comm+ product and Panasonic’s Global Communications Service to provide connectivity during flight or at the gate.
Panasonic says this offering will “leverage both Ku-band service and GSM cellular,” and will address the bandwidth limitations and high transmission costs that it says are associated with traditional data communications systems.
With the planned product offering, real-time weather can be delivered to the flight deck, the companies say. In addition, they plan to further enhance existing platforms to enable greater efficiency in maintenance, flight and cabin operations via data automation.
The companies plan to provide real-time flight data transmission, which they say is essentially the live streaming of flight data that could help determine an aircraft’s operational status.
The companies also say that other areas of collaboration include ACARS AOC data over IP, avionics software distribution and an onboard aircraft interface that supports EFB and crew mobile device platforms.
