The Pulse360: As remote workforces press on, searches for project management software increase
May 29, 2020
Searches for project management software on Engineering360.com are up 600% since last year. As the coronavirus continues, searches continue to rise, with a 40% increase over the last month.
Project management software is used across many industries to help organizations plan, schedule, and allocate resources towards projects. It can be used to track budgets, organize and house documents, and facilitate collaboration. Popular project management tools include JIRA, Trello and Basecamp.
According to Forbes, companies are focusing on speed and efficiency to offset the strain COVID-19 has put on their businesses. To help, they are enlisting productivity software for time management, project management and customer relationship management.
Even before the coronavirus shuttered offices, remote work was on the rise. The number of people who worked remotely at least once per week grew 400% since 2010 (GetApp). Project management software is an essential tool to allow for easy collaboration and organization when a team is unable to meet in a central location.
And while many are forced temporarily into a work from home situation, we’ve already seen hints that this will have a lasting effect. For example, large corporations like Facebook and Google have extended their remote work policy until 20201, and Facebook has even shifted to permanent work from home situations for many employees. Similarly, Twitter, Square and Shopify have spoken about allowing employees to work remotely permanently.
“We expect that the impact of COVID-19 on Americans and the U.S. economy will spur even greater interest in enterprise workflow and project management solutions,” said Pamela Parker, Third Door Media’s research director and the author of MarTech’s recent buyer’s guide for project management software.
